9 Weeks Pregnant

All Essential Organs Formed

Baby size this weekAbout the size of a cherry

Your baby this week

Your baby is a cherry-sized little person now, and officially has all four chambers of the heart. Tiny earlobes are forming, and the eyelids are fused shut — they'll open later. The muscles are developing, which means your baby can make small movements. The reproductive organs are forming inside, but it's too early to tell on ultrasound. Your baby is growing every single day.

Your body this week

Your uterus is about the size of a small grapefruit now. Nausea may still be hanging around, but for many women, the worst is almost over. Emotional swings continue — one moment thrilled, the next tearful. Headaches are common from hormonal changes and increased blood volume. Your heart is pumping significantly more blood than usual. Be gentle with yourself — you're building a human.

Common symptoms this week

Every pregnancy is different — you may notice some of these, all of them, or none at all. None of this is a checklist to worry over.

  • Lingering nausea
  • Tearful, swinging moods
  • Hormonal headaches
  • Your heart working harder

This week’s checklist

  • Continue eating small, frequent meals to ease nausea
  • Second TT/Td dose (4 weeks after first dose) if not already done
  • Switch to comfortable loose clothing or maternity wear as your belly grows
  • Stay active — walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga
  • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily
  • Research prenatal screening options (NIPT, NT scan)

What’s normal this week

Most of what you’re feeling is your body doing exactly what it should — the everyday symptoms don’t need a call. The signs below are the rare exceptions: noticing one doesn’t mean something’s wrong, just that it’s worth a quick check.

When to call your doctor

  • Sudden, sharp pelvic pain
  • Bleeding heavier than light spotting
  • Persistent high fever
